There's an interesting thread at B. Clay Moore's message board about screwed up comic covers from the past. As Clay says, "Sometimes it's not too surprising people took issue with comic books back in the day."

So did it turn out to be Air Boy?

I assume he turned out to be Airboy, although it might've made a nice cliffhanger if it turned out the other way.
I liked how Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow took the more palpable elements of this and other older, pulp-derived genres and updated it for modern audiences.
It would be interesting to do a story where a more authentic Airboy type came forward in time somehow, like Captain America being found by the Avengers -- only instead of getting a great hero, they get this irredeemable racist who ultimately becomes the villain.
Five issue mini-series. Any takers? :)
